July Update


We're in a mad rush to get the game wrapped up, but here are a few progress notes for you. The game is content complete and we're in full-on bug fix/polish mode. Hooray!

E3 2017

E3 was a lot of fun, and some cool stuff came from it. We were nominated for Best RPG of E3 by IGN, and also snagged a Game Critics Award nomination for Best RPG!

Beta Date

August 29th. Mark your calendars!

The beta will be on Steam. For backers who choose a Steam edition of the game, we're going to work like hell to make sure your save game transfers into the full release.

For console backers, you'll get a beta key on Steam that will remain active until the game officially launches in October.

Physical Upgrade Option

This is a popular question, so here's the status. There's the potential that Battle Chasers may see a physical collector's edition at launch. This is the last thing we are trying to verify before we make prices for any upgrades available. We are hoping to have these prices in the next two weeks and will announce the upgrade options the second we know more about them. Thanks for the patience!


On the above note, around the time we get the physical options sorted, we'll be sending out another wave of survey emails in case you missed the first. As always, if you have any problems, please contact us at support@airshipsyndicate.com and we'll help you out! 


We're also excited to announce that, courtesy of THQNordic, our list of supported languages for Battle Chasers: Nightwar has increased. We're also planning VO support for most or even all of them! Here's the final list:

Special Shout Out

Powerhouse Animation - CASTLEVANIA!

The amazing crew at Powerhouse Animation, the group doing all of our cut scene motion graphic work and 2d animation, just launched something pretty amazing... Castlevania on Netflix. They touched on all aspects of the series, and our own UI designer Billy Garretsen even designed the logo! So, needless to say, it's close to our hearts (and is freaking awesome).

Pre-E3 Update!

Hey Backers!

Alpha went out the door last month to our alpha backers and has gone very well. A special thanks to all those who took time to report bugs and give us feedback... We appreciate it!

Happening Now

The team is in full-on finish-the-game-mode. So what does that mean? Here's a glimpse:

  • Finishing content: We're putting a shine on dungeons, micro-dungeons, the world map... everything!
  • Localization: Coming to the languages we originally announced, plus MORE! We'll announce those next month!
  • QA: THQNordic's QA team is at full-burn, playing through the game and testing for bugs
  • Finalizing Cutscenes: The motion graphic cut scenes and fully-animated 2d intro are both being finalized right now!
  • Lots of hard work: Our talented folks have the pedal to the floor getting this thing done!

Backer Survey

By the end of this week, all of our supporters will be able to make their platform choices and give us the info we need to fulfill everything that's coming. There will be a separate email sent out by Friday with details on that. So keep an eye out!

Physical Version: We're still working with our publisher, THQNordic, to work out the logistics of fulfilling requests for a physical version of the game (not originally promised in the campaign). It's taking longer than we anticipated, but we're hoping to have that ironed out very soon, and when we do, we'll let you guys know!

Beta Date

With Alpha released, we know the next big question is... where's beta?! The short answer is, we're still working that out. Our plan is to drop it in the next 4-6 weeks. We'll have a definitive answer for everyone by our next update, which will be in late June.


Nightwar will be at E3 in THQNordic's press-only area. There's a chance we may also sneak out onto the show floor in someone else's booth... but that announcement will have to come at a later date. As soon as we know, you'll know!

Quick Shout Out

So this game was announced. May be worth mentioning. :)


It's being done by our good friends at Gunfire Games, where a massive number of ex-Vigil crew landed, including the majority of leads from the Darksiders games.

December Update!

Hey All!

Our latest December Kickstarter update is live!

Happy New Year (almost), Backers!

No preamble this time, just a shiny assortment of brand-spanking-new animated GIFs (jiffs?)! 

But what does it all mean...?



Crafting System

Some of the best gear is made at crafting stations found in dungeons. When you reach them, recipes are simple: put in the required ingredients for a 100% chance to make an uncommon-quality item. 

In a few twists, you can try with LESS than the required ingredients, and you'll see your percentage chance to succeed (or fail, and lose all of the ingredients). You can put MORE than the required ingredients into the craft, increasing your chance to make a rare or better item. 

Pile in enough, and you'll add up to a guaranteed epic version of any equippable item.


Alpha and Beta

We didn't get to alpha before Christmas like we had hoped, but are still aiming for the first quarter of '17 for both. We're still holding steady on our planned mid-2017 ship date. Many have asked when they'll choose their platform: this will be around the Beta date.

New Characters

Meet two new members of the Battle Chasers universe... the to-be-named Beastmaster (stretch goal!) and the tavern keeper, Dogan.

The Nightwar Grows Stronger

Battle Chasers: Nightwar got off to a hot start on Kickstarter, but we fell just shy of a few high-end stretch goals that were popular with our backers. While we've continued to take campaign contributions here on Battlechasers.com, nothing can compare to the mass and momentum of a Kickstarter campaign for generating funds.

Nothing, that is, except the support of a partner. Which is why we're happy to announce Airship's alliance with Nordic Games to increase funding for Nightwar, and to provide Airship with key support in areas we don't have particular expertise; namely publishing, localization, marketing, and so on. 

So what does this mean for you, as a backer, supporter, or fan of our upcoming RPG?

Well, first thing's first...

That's right. Our last remaining stretch goals have all been crushed. You can now expect a bigger game, with more polished 2D presentation, and the all important VOICE ACTING for key heroes and villains! Over time, expect some cool announcements on exactly how each of these new features will be worked into the final game. But know that we're crazy excited to have them included.

While new features and polish are great, here's what's possibly the most important aspect of this partnership: we can focus all of our efforts on making a great game, and leave the rest to Nordic. As you might expect from recent alliances between independent game studios and publishers who share their visioni, we still have 100% ownership and creative control of the project.

We're hoping to have it all wrapped up sometime in February or March, at which point the first stage of surveys will be released to start gathering info and delivering some of the various digital rewards. It should be exciting!
